The Beach Beasties (previously called Make a Splash or Swim Class) series is a swim-themed doll series of nine figures released in three waves. Draculaura, Lagoona Blue, and Venus McFlytrap make up the first wave and were released in Mid January. The second wave comprises Frankie Stein, Rochelle Goyle, and Holt Hyde, and hit stores in Late July of the same year. In August 2014, the third wave arrived, carrying Clawdeen Wolf, Spectra Vondergeist and Jinafire Long. The first wave is regularly available, but the other two waves are exclusive to Justice.
Name[]
The 'Make a Splash' line is one of the officially nameless lines given a name by fans. That is, when the line came out, many names were proposed and no concensus was reached. Suggestions that came up were 'Maliboo Maulings', 'Bay of Dismay', 'Creepy Coast', 'Swim Class', and 'Make a Splash', which were adopted by the fandom varyingly. Easily the most used but also most controversial name is 'Swim Class', inspired by the Dance Class series released three months earlier. Though acquiring a default status of sorts due to lack of concensus on a name to use, 'Swim Class' has been heavily opposed for its inaccuracy, as the line's theme has nothing to do with school.
Given all this, the Monster High Wiki opted for a community vote to decide which name to detail the line under, of which 'Make a Splash' was the winner. It's not more 'real' than the other options, merely a local consensus. However, due to the re-release, the Monster High Wiki now details the line under Beach Beasties.
Characteristics[]
'Beach Beasties' is the third beachwear assortment, succeeding Skull Shores. Like all beach-themed lines, it is a budget line. Whereas previous assortments were attached to a location through their name and the fiction, 'Beach Beasties' is not due to not having a name and not having appeared in any fiction. At over 18 months between the releases of the line's first and third wave, it is the longest running beachwear line and one of the longest running lines of the franchise in general.
As a budget line, 'Beach Beasties' reuses a few accessories from earlier assortments, mainly shoes.
