Main Former backgrounders Volume 1 backgrounders Volume 2 backgrounders Volume 3 backgrounders Generation 2 backgrounders Generation 3 backgrounders

The Volume 1 backgrounders are the backgrounders who originated in the Volume 1 portion of the cartoon series, as well as the backgrounders that originated in younger volumes but that possess a design based on a Volume 1 backgrounder. Volume 1 backgrounders are, obviously, the oldest of the backgrounders, filling up the halls of Monster High since the very start. They are recognizable for their conservative appearance. That is, there is roughly one body build for boys and one for girls, more than a few backgrounders share faces and headshapes and most backgrounders are not recognizable as a specific monster. What is particularly odd about this is that there áre some very creative Volume 1 backgrounder designs, but nearly all of those appear only once.

With the transition to Volume 2 (and further), many Volume 1 backgrounders have been dropped from the series, as new backgrounders with better designs and additional characters have been introduced that make for more appealing appearances in the Monster High halls.

Girls[]

Fear Squad poster girl[]

Why We Fright - fearleading poster

As seen on a Fearleader Tryouts Poster

The Fear Squad poster girl is a monster exclusively seen on the announcement posters for Fear Squad auditions in "New Ghoul @ School" and "Why We Fright". Since she wears the Monster High uniform, but is never seen on Cleo's squad, she was likely a fearleader for a previous squad, possibly when Nefera was the captain.

She is a light green, with Dark moderate blue hair. She has a Fearleading Uniform along with fearleading heels.

Cat Girl[]

Quotation1 Cupid: Let me ask you caller are you invisible?

Cat Girl: Yeah that’s what I’m saying, it’s like he can’t even see me.
Cupid: No sweetie, are you actually invisible?

Quotation2

The animal girl is an often seen face around the Monster High halls. She is one of the most recognized backgrounders. Though she looks like a werecat, she is officially identified as a cat girl. She is speculated to be the daughter of the Cheshire cat, hence the purple/pink color scheme and the ability to turn invisible, but this has not been confirmed. There are two versions of the cat girl in existence.

  • The pink cat girl is established as a member of the Fear Squad in "New Ghoul @ School" and "Scream Building". She quit the team in the latter webisode due to Cleo's demanding attitude. In "Idol Threat", she was hypnotized by Cleo to step aside. Her character model has been reused twice for a different character, once as a fearleader for another school in "Monster Mashionals Part 2" and once as an adult photographer in "Neferamore". She is given a speaking cameo in "Why Do Ghouls Fall in Love?", revealing that she can turn invisible. Her 3D model has been used for an elephant-eared backgrounder in the specials.
    • The cat girl appears in "New Ghoul @ School", "Jaundice Brothers", "Talon Show", "Party Planners", "Blue Lagoona", "Bad Scare Day", "Photo Finish", "Freedom Fight", "Shock and Awesome", "Mad Science Fair", "The Good, the Bad and the Fabulous", "Rumor Run Wild", "Horrorscope", "Idol Threat", "Hatch Me If You Can", "A Scare of a Dare", "Scream Building", "Why We Fright", "Fear-A-Mid Power", "Beast Friends", "Varsity Boos", "Falling Spirits", "Fatal Error", "Screech to the Beach", "Don't Cheer the Reaper", "Road to Monster Mashionals", "Queen of the Scammed", "Frightday the 13th", "HooDoo You Like?", "Fear Pressure", "Fear the Book", "Miss Infearmation", "Hyde and Shriek", "Daydream of the Dead", "Nefera Again", "Abominable Impression", "Frost Friends", "Hyde Your Heart", "Ghostly Gossip", "Hiss-teria", "Phantom of the Opry", "The Bermuda Love Triangle", "Here Comes Treble", "Monster Mashionals Part 2", "Fright On!", "Kind: The Shockumentary", "Super Fan", "Uncommon Cold", "Ghosts with Dirty Faces", "Hickmayleeun", "Why Do Ghouls Fall in Love?", "Unlife to Live", "Fright, Camera, Action," and "Abyss Adventure".
  • The blue cat girl showed up first mid-Volume 2.
    • The blue cat girl appears in "Miss Infearmation", "Fright On!" and "Super Fan".

Lion girl[]

The lion girl.

The lion girl.

The lion girl is one of the rarer backgrounders, appearing only 'four' times in the webisodes. She tries to make the Fear Squad in both "New Ghoul @ School" and "Fear Squad", but doesn't have the confidence or skill to accomplish that feat. A picture of her during Fear Squad tryouts was inserted in the fearbook, as seen in "Fear the Book". However, she shows up as a fearleader in the online game Pom-Pom Panic!, while her model was used in "Monster Mashionals Part 1" for a fearleader from a competing school.

Cheek-scar girl[]

The cheek-scar girl was a member of the Fear Squad in "New Ghoul @ School" but supposedly quit the team shortly after that. She auditioned for a part in Hamlet: The Musical but didn't get it. This didn't stop her from cheering on the people who got through auditions and gave a quality performance in "Clawditions". This is also the only moment she received a line of dialogue. In "Varsity Boos", she hosted one of the funfair games. The animation model of cheek-scar girl was also used for a fearleader from a competing school in "Monster Mashionals Part 1".

  • The cheek-scar girl appears in "New Ghoul @ School", "Jaundice Brothers", "Copy Canine", "The Hot Boy", "Photo Finish", "Bad Zituation", "Clawditions", "Freedom Fight", "Freakout Firday", "Shock and Awesome", "Mad Science Fair", "Rumor Run Wild", "Horrorscope", "Idol Threat", "Hatch Me If You Can", "Why We Fright", "Fear-A-Mid Power", "Beast Friends", "Varsity Boos", "Fatal Error", "Screech to the Beach", "Don't Cheer the Reaper", "Road to Monster Mashionals", "Frightday the 13th", "Fear Pressure", "Fear the Book", "Miss Infearmation", "Hyde and Shriek", "Daydream of the Dead", "Nefera Again", "Frost Friends", "Hiss-teria", "The Bermuda Love Triangle", "Here Comes Treble", "Neferamore", "Monster Mashionals Part 2", "Fright On!", "Kind: The Shockumentary", "Zom-Beach Party", "Uncommon Cold", "Unlife to Live", and "Unearthed Day".

Glasses girl[]

The glasses girl is generally thought to be an elf due to her long, pointy ears. There are three versions of her.

  • The blue glasses girl was a member of the Fear Squad in "New Ghoul @ School" but supposedly quit the team shortly after that. She had one line of dialogue in "Clawditions", which reveals she's a fan of Shakespeare. In "Party Planners", she attended Frankie's and Draculaura's birthday party, and in "Idol Threat", she was hypnotized by Cleo to step aside. She was shocked by Frankie in "Uncommon Cold" when the latter got sick. The glasses girl's model was used in "Monster Mashionals Part 1" for a fearleader from a competing school.
    • The glasses girl appears in "New Ghoul @ School", "Jaundice Brothers", "Substitute Creature", "Party Planners", "Bad Scare Day", "Photo Finish", "Clawditions", "Freedom Fight", "Shock and Awesome", "Mad Science Fair", "Rumor Run Wild", "Horrorscope", "Idol Threat", "Hatch Me If You Can", "Date of the Dead", "Why We Fright", "Fear-A-Mid Power", "Beast Friends", "Varsity Boos", "Falling Spirits", "Fatal Error", "Screech to the Beach", "Don't Cheer the Reaper", "Road to Monster Mashionals", "Queen of the Scammed", "HooDoo You Like?", "Fear Pressure", "Fear the Book", "Desperate Hours", "Miss Infearmation", "Hyde and Shriek", "Daydream of the Dead", "Back-To-Ghoul", "Abominable Impression", "Frost Friends", "Hyde Your Heart", "Ghostly Gossip", "The Bermuda Love Triangle", "Here Comes Treble", "Dueling Personality", "Rising From the Dead", "Monster Mashionals Part 2", "Fright On!", "Kind: The Shockumentary", "Fashion Emergency", "Super Fan", "Uncommon Cold", "Hickmayleeun", "Unearthed Day", and "Creepfast Club".
  • The pink glasses girl only appeared in "Date of the Dead" and could very well be an animation 'error'. She was drawn opposite of the blue glasses girl, making it possible she was colored differently so that no other model needed to be drawn yet the same backgrounder would not appear in the same shot twice. Alternatively, her colors are similar to the cheek-scar girl, so perhaps she was scheduled to be drawn but her animation model got mixed with the glasses' girls. Either way, with no clear argument for it, she is to be regarded as a separate backgrounder.
  • The peach glasses girl debuted mid-Volume 2.
    • The peach glasses girl appears in "Miss Infearmation", "Fright On!" and "Super Fan".

Three-eyed girl[]

While remaining a backgrounder, the three-eyed girl is a step above her colleagues in that she has received a toy: her appearance is among the first three Create-A-Monster accessory packs, she was also give a profile inspired by Dollie Loverz where she is given the name Eyeris Polyphemus. In "New Ghoul @ School", the three-eyed girl tried to get a spot on the Fear Squad , but fled the auditions after seeing how good the older members were. Also in "New Ghoul @ School", the three-eyed girl was the most expressive in responding to Lou Zarr's boredom-inducing teaching methods, as she acted as if she was dying. She danced with the pink cyclops boy in "Fright On!", though he was earlier seen with Iris. Her model was used in "Monster Mashionals Part 1" for a fearleader from a competing school.

  • The three-eyed girl appears in "New Ghoul @ School", "Jaundice Brothers", "Talon Show", "Party Planners", "Blue Lagoona", "Copy Canine", "Bad Scare Day", "Clawditions", "Totally Busted", "Rumor Run Wild", "Horrorscope", "Idol Threat", "Hatch Me If You Can", "Fear-A-Mid Power", "Varsity Boos", "Falling Spirits", "Fatal Error", "Screech to the Beach", "Don't Cheer the Reaper", "Road to Monster Mashionals", "Frightday the 13th", "HooDoo You Like?", "Fear Pressure", "Fear the Book", "Desperate Hours", "Miss Infearmation", "Hyde and Shriek", "Daydream of the Dead", "Frost Friends", "Ghostly Gossip", "Hiss-teria", "The Bermuda Love Triangle", "Monster Mashionals Part 2", "Fright On!", "Kind: The Shockumentary", "Super Fan", "Zom-Beach Party", "Uncommon Cold", and "Unearthed Day".

Ponytail elf girl[]

The ponytail elf girl is among the regular female Volume 1 backgrounders. She is also among the few Monster High students that could pass for a regular human, though her ears reveal she is most likely a elf. The ponytail girl tries to get on the Fear Squad in "Fear Squad", but doesn't make it. A picture of her during Fear Squad tryouts was inserted in the fearbook, as seen in "Fear the Book". She also shows up in the online game Pom-Pom Panic!. A particular oddity of the ponytail girl is that, despite that she has a unique and complete design, her presence in the webisodes has greatly diminished since the start of Volume 2, It is possible her more human looks are the reason behind this. She can be seen sitting in the Student Lounge on the website.

  • The ponytail elf girl appears in "New Ghoul @ School", "Talon Show", "Fear Squad", "Substitute Creature", "Party Planners", "Blue Lagoona", "The Hot Boy", "Photo Finish", "Bad Zituation", "Clawditions", "Freedom Fight", "Totally Busted", "Mad Science Fair", "The Good, the Bad and the Fabulous", "Rumor Run Wild", "Horrorscope", "Idol Threat", "Date of the Dead", "Fear-A-Mid Power", "Varsity Boos", "Falling Spirits", "Queen of the Scammed", "HooDoo You Like?", "Fear the Book", "Frost Friends", "Fright On!" "Bean Scare, Done That", "Boo Year's Eve," and "Frankie's Joltin' Juice".

Stitched-up mouth girl[]

The stitched-up mouth girl wears a pink cap often animated behind her head, leaving only the visor visible. She danced with the basic dark circles boy in "Fright On!". Her model was used in "Monster Mashionals Part 1" for a fearleader from a competing school.

  • The stitched-up mouth girl appears in "New Ghoul @ School", "Jaundice Brothers", "Talon Show", "Party Planners", "Blue Lagoona", "Bad Scare Day", "Bad Zituation", "Clawditions", "Mad Science Fair", "Horrorscope", "Idol Threat", "Hatch Me If You Can", "Fear-A-Mid Power", "Varsity Boos", "Fatal Error", "Screech to the Beach", "Fear Pressure", "Fear the Book", "Hyde and Shriek", "Daydream of the Dead", "The Bermuda Love Triangle", "Here Comes Treble", "Fright On!", "Kind: The Shockumentary".

Punk girl[]

The punk girl is one of the rarer backgrounders, appearing only 'four' times in the webisodes.

Short-haired green girl[]

The short-haired green girl's face appears to be modeled after Draculaura's, sharing the same eyes, nose, lip, and overall shape. She is one of the rarer backgrounders, appearing only 'twice' in the webisodes. She tries to make the Fear Squad in "New Ghoul @ School" but is intimidated out of that wish by the older Fear Squad's members' skills. Her model was used in "Monster Mashionals Part 1" for a fearleader from a competing school.

Blue girl with yellow eyes[]

The blue girl with yellow eyes is one of the rarer backgrounders, appearing only 'four' times in the webisodes. She tries to make the Fear Squad in both "New Ghoul @ School" and "Fear Squad", but doesn't have the confidence or skill to accomplish that feat. A picture of her during Fear Squad tryouts was inserted in the fearbook, as seen in "Fear the Book". She also shows up in the online game Pom-Pom Panic!, while her model was used in "Monster Mashionals Part 1" for a fearleader from a competing school.

Hooded girl[]

The hooded girl walks around at monster High. Her model was used for a fearleader from a competing school in "Monster Mashionals Part 1".

  • The hooded girl appears in "Jaundice Brothers", "Talon Show", "Substitute Creature", "Party Planners", "Copy Canine", "Mad Science Fair", "Rumor Run Wild", "Horrorscope", "Idol Threat", "Hatch Me If You Can", "Date of the Dead", "Why We Fright", "Fear-A-Mid Power", "Varsity Boos", "Fatal Error", "Screech to the Beach", "Road to Monster Mashionals", "Queen of the Scammed", "Fear the Book", "Miss Infearmation", "Hyde and Shriek", "Daydream of the Dead", "Nefera Again", "Back-To-Ghoul", "Frost Friends", "Hiss-teria", "The Bermuda Love Triangle", "Here Comes Treble", "Monster Mashionals Part 2", "Fright On!", "Kind: The Shockumentary", "Super Fan", "No Place Like Nome", "Unlife to Live", and "Unearthed Day".

Boys[]

Catboy[]

The basic catboy

Catboy is Monster High's quintessential backgrounder. There exist a total of seven catboy variations that are almost assuredly all different characters and show up whenever one would least expect it.

At the beach.
  • The first and primary catboy has pink-purplish skin and his hair combed backwards. He is one of the three catboys originating in Volume 1 and throughout that volume one of the most recognizable backgrounders. Some of his noteworthy appearances are in "Clawditions", where he auditoned for a role in the musical version of Hamlet, but didn't get the part, and in "Idol Threat", where Cleo at one point controlled him. He became a member of the casketball team sometime prior to Volume 2 and played a friendly match with his teammates in the Monster High hallways in "Beast Friends". In "Queen of the Scammed", he wore a life boa as part of the new fashion trend, but it attempted to strangle him. He's a generous boy too, since in "Rising From the Dead", he donated to the out-of-luck Fear Squad. His character model has been reused twice for a different character, once as a member of another school in "Fear-A-Mid Power" and once as an adult photographer in "Neferamore".
    • Basic catboy appears in "New Ghoul @ School", "Talon Show", "Clawditions", "Freakout Friday", "Mad Science Fair", "The Good, the Bad and the Fabulous", "Rumor Run Wild", "Fur Will Fly", "Horrorscope", "Idol Threat", "Hatch Me If You Can", "Date of the Dead", "Why We Fright", "Fear-A-Mid Power", "Beast Friends", "Varsity Boos", "Gloomsday", "Fatal Error", "Screech to the Beach", "Don't Cheer the Reaper", "Road to Monster Mashionals", "Queen of the Scammed", "Frightday the 13th", "HooDoo You Like?", "Fear Pressure", "Fear the Book", "Miss Infearmation", "Hyde and Shriek", "Daydream of the Dead", "Abominable Impression", "Frost Friends", "Ghostly Gossip", "Hiss-teria", "Phantom of the Opry", "The Bermuda Love Triangle", "Here Comes Treble", "Rising From the Dead", "Monster Mashionals Part 2", "Fright On!", "Kind: The Shockumentary", "Super Fan", "Uncommon Cold", "Ghosts with Dirty Faces", "Hickmayleeun", "The Nine Live of Toralei Stripe", "Unearthed Day", and "Creepfast Club".
  • The second most seen catboy in Volume 1 is the bald one.
    • The bald catboy appears in "New Ghoul @ School", "Party Planners", "Blue Lagoona", "Copy Canine", "The Hot Boy", "Bad Scare Day", "Bad Zituation", "Mad Science Fair", "Horrorscope", "A Scare of a Dare".
  • The third catboy was only occasionally seen in Volume 1, often talking with Iris. He too has pink skin, but his hair is purple and hangs down.
    • The talkative catboy appears in "New Ghoul @ School", "Party Planners", "Blue Lagoona", "Bad Zituation" and "Freedom Fight".
  • During the episodes that the Fear Squad tried to get one million hits on FrightTube, a purple version of the basic catboy showed up. Despite his rare appearance, he definitely was not a wrongly colored basic catboy, as the basic catboy jumped out of his locker towards the end of "Fatal Error".
    • The purple catboy appears in "Falling Spirits" and "Fatal Error".
  • Introduced mid-Volume 2, yellow catboy is yet another variation of the basic catboy, this time cast in yellow.
    • The yellow catboy appears in "Desperate Hours", "Fright On!" and "Super Fan".

Dark circles boy[]

The green-skinned dc boy.

The green-skinned dc boy.

The dark circles boy is one of the most common backgrounders, comprising four variants. It is unclear what kind of monster they are. In "Fright On!" and "Ghosts with Dirty Faces", the green-skinned one was shown among the zombie crowds, but he also appeared as a member of the debate team in "Fear-A-Mid Power", an activity that isn't very zombie-like. He also never displayed the regular zombie trait of slowness.

  • The most often seen dark circles boy is a green of skin. He is a member of the Monster High debate team, as seen in "Fear-A-Mid Power". Frankie Stein shocked him, trying to stop another student in "Horrorscope," and Cleo hypnotized him to do her bidding in "Idol Threat". In "Rumor Run Wild", Draculaura remarks that he is cute while he was seen dancing with the stitched-up mouth girl in "Fright On!". "He has a small line of dialogue in "Clawditions". He became a member of the casketball team sometime before Volume 2 and played a friendly match with his teammates in the Monster High hallways in "Beast Friends". His character model has been reused once for a different character: an adult photographer in "Neferamore".
    • The green-skinned dark circles boy appears in "New Ghoul @ School", "Jaundice Brothers", "Talon Show", "Party Planners", "Copy Canine", "Clawditions", "Freedom Fight", "Shock and Awesome", "Mad Science Fair", "The Good, the Bad and the Fabulous", "Rumor Run Wild", "Horrorscope", "Idol Threat", "Hatch Me If You Can", "Date of the Dead", "Why We Fright", "Fear-A-Mid Power", "Beast Friends", "Varsity Boos", "Gloomsday", "Falling Spirits", "Fatal Error", "Witch Trials", "Queen of the Scammed", "Frightday the 13th", "HooDoo You Like?", "Fear Pressure", "Fear the Book", "Miss Infearmation", "Hyde and Shriek", "Daydream of the Dead", "Nefera Again", "Frost Friends", "Hiss-teria", "Phantom of the Opry", "The Bermuda Love Triangle", "Here Comes Treble", "Rising From the Dead", "Monster Mashionals Part 2", "Fright On!", "Fashion Emergency", "Super Fan", "Zom-Beach Party", "Ghosts with Dirty Faces", "Abyss Adventure", "Unearthed Day", and "Creepfast Club".
  • There exists a minor dark circles boy who only appeared in the show's intro sequence. He has green skin like the most popular version, but instead of brown hair standing up, he has a small green mohawk. He is seen talking with the head-tentacled five-eyed aqua boy.
  • There exists a minor dark circles boy who only appeared in "Talon Show". He has green skin like the most popular version, but instead of brown hair standing up, he has blue-green hair hanging down.
  • The rarely seen white-skinned dark circles boy is bald. Frankie invited him for Draculaura's birthday part in "Party Planners", but he declined, knowing a surprise party for the both of them was being organized.
    • The white-skinned dark circles boy appears in "New Ghoul @ School", "Substitute Creature", "Party Planners", and "The Hot Boy".
  • A third dark circles boy is unique to the webisode "Fear-A-Mid Power". He is a purple version of the basic green-skinned dark circles boy but dressed in the green outfit of one of the amoeba boys.
  • A fourth dark circles boy was introduced mid-Volume 2. He is recognizable by his red skin.
    • The red-skinned dark circles boy appears in "Desperate Hours", "Fright On!", "Super Fan".

Thin-faced boy[]

The thin-faced boy is a background character notable for having two variations that are not immediately recognizable as variations. Presumably, the hooded one was designed first, after which his head was stuck on a generic jock body to create another backgrounder. In Volume 2, a third design was introduced based on the hooded version.

  • The thin-faced boy with a hoodie is the more prominent of the two lasting versions. He likes to play dodgeskull, according to "Dodgeskull".
    • The thin-faced boy with a hoodie appears in "New Ghoul @ School", "Talon Show", "Substitute Creature", "Bad Scare Day", "Bad Zituation", "Clawditions", "Freedom Fight", "Shock and Awesome", "Mad Science Fair", "The Good, the Bad and the Fabulous", "Idol Threat", "Hatch Me If You Can", "Fear-A-Mid Power", "Beast Friends", "Falling Spirits", "Fatal Error", "Screech to the Beach", "Witch Trials", "Don't Cheer the Reaper", "Road to Monster Mashionals", "Queen of the Scammed", "HooDoo You Like?", "Fear Pressure", "Fear the Book", "Miss Infearmation", "Hyde and Shriek", "Daydream of the Dead", "Frost Friends", "The Bermuda Love Triangle", "Here Comes Treble", "Fright On!", "Kind: The Shockumentary", "Fashion Emergency", "Zom-Beach Party", "Dodgeskull", "No Place Like Nome", and "Unlife to Live".
  • The thin-faced boy with hair is the less prominent of the two lasting versions.
    • The thin-faced boy with hair appears in "New Ghoul @ School", "Jaundice Brothers", "Substitute Creature", "Party Planners", "Blue Lagoona", "Bad Scare Day", "Totally Busted", "Shock and Awesome", "Mad Science Fair", "The Good, the Bad and the Fabulous", "Rumor Run Wild" and "Idol Threat".
  • The green thin-faced boy is a one-time variation that might be a miscolored version of the normal hooded one. However, that would be the only known one, so it's probably not the case. The green thin-faced boy only showed up in "Gloomsday", eating a hotdog.

Skeleton boy with backpack[]

The skeleton boy with backpack.

The skeleton boy with backpack.

A backgrounder unique to the webisode "Bad Scare Day", the skeleton boy with a backpack is one of the many skeletons that attend Monster High. During his one appearance, he got shocked by Frankie's switched bolts.

Red-haired skeleton boy[]

The red-haired skeleton boy is the one skeleton the webisodes keep featuring. There are two variants of him.

  • The red-haired skeleton boy with a beanie is the better known variant. In "Clawditions", he auditioned for a role in Hamlet: The Musical, but it's unknown if he got it. In "Mad Science Fair", he had a or was part of another's invention and presentation. And in "Idol Threat", he was hypnotized by Cleo to step aside. In both "Here Comes Treble" and "Fashion Emergency", he literally dropped his jaw, once for seeing Jackson change into Holt and once for seeing the amazing outfits of Draculaura and her friends. The red-haired skeleton boy with a beanie was animated with beanie or hair at one point in "New Ghoul @ School". His character model has been reused once for a different character: an adult photographer in "Neferamore".
    • The red-haired skeleton boy with a beanie appears in "New Ghoul @ School", "Talon Show", "Party Planners", "Blue Lagoona", "Bad Zituation", "Clawditions", "Freedom Fight", "Freakout Friday", "Shock and Awesome", "Mad Science Fair", "Rumor Run Wild", "Horrorscope", "Idol Threat", "Hatch Me If You Can", "Date of the Dead", "Why We Fright", "Fear-A-Mid Power", "Varsity Boos", "Falling Spirits", "Fatal Error", "Screech to the Beach", "Don't Cheer the Reaper", "Road to Monster Mashionals", "Queen of the Scammed", "Frightday the 13th", "HooDoo You Like?", "Fear the Book", "Desperate Hours", "Miss Infearmation", "Hyde and Shriek", "Daydream of the Dead", "Nefera Again", "Back-To-Ghoul", "Frost Friends", "Hyde Your Heart", "Ghostly Gossip", "The Bermuda Love Triangle", "Here Comes Treble", "Rising From the Dead", "Monster Mashionals Part 2", "Fright On!", "Fashion Emergency", "Super Fan", "Uncommon Cold", "The Nine Lives of Toralei Stripe".
  • The red-haired skeleton boy with a cap may not have red hair, as the cap's visor is in front of it, but otherwise does share the beanie version's head model. He only appears in "New Ghoul @ School" and "Freedom Fight", attending Zarr's and Hackington's classes.

Skeleton boy[]

The skeleton boy.

The skeleton boy.

The skeleton boy is one of the three Volume 1 backgrounders whose faces were never shown (presumably). He shares his headshape with them and equally is always animated from a back-sideview. He is the only one of the three that doesn't leave one guessing what type of monster he is.

  • The skeleton boy appears in "New Ghoul @ School", "Jaundice Brothers", "Party Planners", "Blue Lagoona", "Copy Canine", "Bad Scare Day", "Bad Zituation" and "Idol Threat".

Other skeleton boy[]

The skeleton boy.

The skeleton boy.

The other skeleton boy appears solely in "Freedom Fight", where he was having a friendly chat with Heath Burns while Hackington explained today's science class. It is possible he and skeleton boy are the same, but they have different sleeves to their jackets. This suggests they are not the same, though it remains possible the lack of flames is an animation error.

Bald 'human' boy[]

The bald boy, without and with ear and eyebrow.

The bald boy, without and with ear and eyebrow.

The bald 'human' boy is one of the three Volume 1 backgrounders whose faces were never shown. He shares his head shape with them and equally is always animated from a back-side view. Unlike the other two, there is absolutely no telling what kind of monster he is. He is often animated without his ear and eyebrow.

  • The bald 'human' boy appears in "New Ghoul @ School", "Bad Zituation", "Horrorscope", "Idol Threat", "Screech to the Beach," and "HooDoo You Like?".

Pink cyclops boy[]

The pink cyclops boy is a backgrounder consisting of four versions, one being featured a lot, the second being part of the intro sequence, the third being hard not to miss and the fourth having only a single appearance.

  • The red-haired pink cyclops boy is one of the background regulars. As shown in " Fear-A-Mid Power ", he is a member of the monster High debate team, as shown in "Fear-A-Mid Power", and a member of the casketball team, as shown in "Varsity Boos". And according to "Dodgeskull", he's also got a like for dodgeskull. As with most backgrounders that wear cargo shorts, he goes shoeless, except for during "Varsity Boos" and when he attended Cleo's party in "Miss Infearmation". He seems to have a thing for girls who also have another-number-than-two eyes, as in "Fright On!" he romantically shared ice cream with the green cyclops girl and later danced with the three-eyed girl.
    • The red-haired pink cyclops boy appears in "New Ghoul @ School", "Talon Show", "Substitute Creature", "Party Planners", "Freedom Fight", "Freakout Friday", "Shock and Awesome", "Mad Science Fair", "The Good, the Bad and the Fabulous", "Rumor Run Wild", "Fur Will Fly", "Horrorscope", "Idol Threat", "Hatch Me If You Can", "Why We Fright", "Fear-A-Mid Power", "Beast Friends", "Varsity Boos", "Falling Spirits", "Fatal Error", "Screech to the Beach", "Witch Trials", "Don't Cheer the Reaper", "Road to Monster Mashionals", "Queen of the Scammed", "Frightday the 13th", "HooDoo You Like?", "Fear Pressure", "Fear the Book", "Desperate Hours", "Miss Infearmation", "Hyde and Shriek", "Daydream of the Dead", "Back-to-Ghoul", "Ghostly Gossip", "Hiss-teria", "Phantom of the Opry", "The Bermuda Love Triangle", "Here Comes Treble", "Neferamore", "Rising From the Dead", "Monster Mashionals Part 2", "Fright On!", "Super Fan", "Dodgeskull", "No Place Like Nome", "Why Do Ghouls Fall In Love?", and "The Nine Lives of Toralei Stripe".
  • The intro black-haired pink cyclops boy only appeared in the show's intro sequence. His head is that of the show black-haired pink cyclops boy, but his body an unfinished version of the red-haired pink cyclops boy.
  • The purple-haired pink cyclops boy is by far less featured than the forelock version. Rather than baggy clothes, he has jock's clothes.
    • The purple-haired pink cyclops boy appears in "New Ghoul @ School" and "Freedom Fight".
  • The show black-haired pink cyclops boy has received only one appearance, in "Freedom Fight". His head is that of the unfinished model of the red-haired pink cyclops boy that is part of the intro of the Monster High webisodes, but his body is a generic jock's.

Mohawk boy[]

The mohawk boy.

The mohawk boy is an elusive backgrounder exclusive to the webisode "Freedom Fight", where he was on-screen for one shot in the back, attending Hackington's mad science class.

Big guy[]

The giant boy.

The giant boy.

The big guy is one of the handfuls of Volume 1 backgrounders that only showed up once, in his case in "Party Planners", where he attended Frankie's and Draculaura's birthday party. He was earlier asked by Frankie to come to Draculaura's birthday party but declined, knowing Frankie's and Draculaura's friends were planning one for the both of them.

the silver robot is a forgettable backgrounder as im adding him to this wiki in 2024, 14 years after volume 1 came out. he wears a maroon jacket and has three green light bulbs on his head. he plays an extremely minor roll in "party planners". when frankie is desperately trying to find guests for a last minute birthday celebration he is the last character on screen to walk right past and ignore her. he moves relatively slow and has a loud robotic sound effect for every step which adds to the comedic impact of the scene.

Scarecrow boy[]

The scarecrow boy.

The scarecrow boy.

The scarecrow boy is one of the few background simulacra and also one of the handfuls of Volume 1 backgrounders that only showed up once, in his case in "Bad Scare Day". He socialized with Frankie over the choice of creepeteria food, but her switched bolts magnetized her, causing the scarecrow boy's sack-face staples to be pulled out. This was apparently rather traumatizing to him.

Two-headed boy[]

The two-headed boy is a monster with two heads but seemingly no mouth(s). It is not known whether the two heads are separate individuals or the same guy.

  • The two-headed boy appears in "New Ghoul @ School", "Substitute Creature", "Party Planners", "Bad Scare Day," and "Falling Spirits".

Mummy boy[]

The mummy boy.

The mummy boy.

Of the four mummies at Monster High, the mummy boy appears the least well-preserved, suggesting him to be of lower standing than the De Niles and Mummy. He is one of the few backgrounders only to be animated going sideways.

  • The mummy boy appears in "New Ghoul @ School", "Jaundice Brothers", "The Hot Boy" and "Bad Scare Day".

Amoeba boy[]

The red jacket-wearing amoeba boy.

The red jacket-wearing amoeba boy.

There are up to three amoeba boys walking around on Monster High ground.

  • The amoeba boy in a green jacket is the most often seen amoeba boy. Because of this, it can be assumed that an amoeba boy wearing an alternative outfit for a special occasion is him. As such, it is he who is assumed to be the amoeba boy on the debate team.
    • The amoeba boy in a green jacket appears in "New Ghoul @ School", "Jaundice Brothers", "Talon Show", "Substitute Creature", "Party Planners", "Copy Canine", "The Hot Boy", "Photo Finish", "Bad Zituation", "Clawditions", "Freedom Fight", "The Good, the bad and the Fabulous", "Rumor Run Wild", "Horrorscope", "Idol Threat", "Hatch Me If You Can", "Date of the Dead", "Why We Fright", "Fear-A-Mid Power", "Beast Friends", "Varsity Boos", "Falling Spirits", "Fatal Error", "Screech to the Beach", "Don't Cheer the Reaper", "Road to Monster Mashionals", "Frightday the 13th", "HooDoo You Like?", "Fear Pressure", "Desperate Hours", "Miss Infearmation", "Hyde and Shriek", "Daydream of the Dead", "Nefera Again", "Back-To-Ghoul", "Abominable Impression", "Frost Friends", "Hyde Your Heart", "Ghostly Gossip", "Hiss-teria", "Phantom of the Opry", "The Bermuda Love Triangle", "Here Comes Treble", "Dueling Personality", "Rising From the Dead", "Fright On!", "Super Fan", "Uncommon Cold", "Why Do Ghouls Fall In Love?", and "Unearthed Day".

Sack-head boy[]

The sack-head boy.

The sack-head boy.

The sack-head boy is a very social backgrounder who converses with roughly everyone throughout the webisodes. In "Idol Threat", Cleo hypnotized him to make way for her and her friends, while in "Rumor Run Wild", he bumped into Frankie while she was texting, causing Cleo's rumor to be further adjusted. He was shocked by Frankie in "Uncommon Cold" when the latter got sick.

  • The sack-head boy appears in "New Ghoul @ School", "Jaundice Brothers", "Talon Show", "Substitute Creature", "Party Planners", "Blue Lagoona", "The Hot Boy", "Photo Finish", "Bad Zituation", "Freedom Fight", "Shock and Awesome", "Mad Science Fair", "Rumor Run Wild", "Horrorscope", "Idol Threat", "Hatch Me If You Can", "Date of the Dead", "A Scare of a Dare", "Why We Fright", "Varsity Boos", "Falling Spirits", "Fatal Error", "Road to Monster Mashionals", "HooDoo You Like?", "Fear Pressure", "Fear the Book", "Desperate Hours", "Miss Infearmation", "Hyde and Shriek", "Daydream of the Dead", "Nefera Again", "Back-To-Ghoul", "Abominable Impression", "Frost Friends", "Ghostly Gossip", "Hiss-teria", "Phantom of the Opry", "The Bermuda Love Triangle", "Here Comes Treble", "Monster Mashionals Part 2", "Fright On!", "Kind: The Shockumentary", "Uncommon Cold", "No Place Like Nome", and "Unearthed Day".

  • The blue scale boy appears in "New Ghoul @ School", "Substitute Creature", "The Hot Boy", "Totally Busted", "Rumor Run Wild", "Horrorscope" and "Idol Threat".

Five-eyed aqua boy[]

The combed five-eyed aqua boy.

While often perceived as possessing three eyes, the five-eyed aqua boy actually has five. There's the central eye, two eyes roughly 3/4th its size next to it, and next to them, two tiny eyes roughly a tenth of the central eye. He also has two very tiny fangs. There are three versions of the five-eyed aquatic boy.

  • The five-eyed aqua boy with crest is the most often seen version. According to "New Ghoul @ School" and numerous Volume 2 webisodes, he is a swim team member. In "Party Planners", he attended Draculaura's and Frankie's birthday party. In "Fear-A-Mid Power", he participated in a swimming competition but was shocked when Frankie Stein fell into the pool. He was accidentally petrified by Deuce Gorgon in "Back-to-Ghoul" when the latter checked out the new girl, Abbey, and in "Zom-Beach Party", a large tentacle stole his ice cream. He was drawn lacking his crest in "Blue Lagoona". His character model has been reused once for a different character: an adult photographer in "Neferamore".
    • The five-eyed aqua boy with crest appears in "New Ghoul @ School", "Substitute Creature", "Talon Show", "Party Planners", "Blue Lagoona", "The Hot Boy", "Bad Scare Day", "Bad Zituation", "Freedom Fight", "Mad Science Fair", "The Good, the Bad and the Fabulous", "Horrorscope", "Idol Threat", "Hatch Me If You Can", "Fear-A-Mid Power", "Beast Friends", "Varsity Boos", "Falling Spirits", "Fatal Error", "Screech to the Beach", "Witch Trials", "Don't Cheer the Reaper", "Road to Monster Mashionals", "Queen of the Scammed", "Frightday the 13th", "HooDoo You Like?", "Fear Pressure", "Fear the Book", "Miss Infearmation", "Hyde and Shriek", "Daydream of the Dead", "Back-To-Ghoul", "Abominable Impression", "Frost Friends", "Hyde Your Heart", "Ghostly Gossip", "Hiss-teria", "Phantom of the Opry", "The Bermuda Love Triangle", "Here Comes Treble", "Dueling Personality", "Neferamore", "Rising From the Dead", "Fright On!", "Kind: The Shockumentary", "Fashion Emergency", "Super Fan", "Zom-Beach Party", "Dodgeskull", "Uncommon Cold", "Ghosts with Dirty Faces", "Unlife to Live", and "Creepfast Club".
  • The alternative five-eyed aqua boy with crest has the same head as the normal five-eyed aqua boy with a crest but wears a blue sweater and baggy pants. He is presumably the one in black trunks that got snatched up and eaten by many tentacles in "Road to Monster Mashionals".
    • The alternative five-eyed aqua boy appears in "New Ghoul @ School", "Substitute Creature", "Bad Scare Day", "Horrorscope", "Varsity Boos," and "Road to Monster Mashionals".
  • The five-eyed aqua boy with head-tentacles is, like the alternative five-eyed aqua boy with crest, a less prominent version. He only appears in "Talon Show" and the intro sequence. In the intro sequence, he is talking with the mohawk-wearing green-skinned dark circles boy.

The fish-face boy

The fish-face boy

The fish-face boy is one of the handfuls of Volume 1 backgrounders that only showed up once, in his case in "Party Planners", where he participated in blowing out the candles atop Frankie's and Draculaura's birthday cake.

Groups[]

Vampire couple[]

The vampire couple.

The vampire couple.

The vampire couple consists of a tall, blue vampire boy and a pink, short vampire girl. For reasons unknown, they are drawn in a style different from the rest of the cartoon. They are notable for being the 'characters' first shown in each webisode, as the intro window zooms out on them. They always appear together except for once in "Copy Canine", where the vampire girl made her SAT.

  • The vampire couple appears in "Party Planners", "Copy Canine", "The Hot Boy" and "Totally Busted"

Zombies[]

Zombies are the type of backgrounders that get designed en masse and thus tend to be incredibly similar. The Volume 1 zombies were designed in two sets: the white-skinned ones that showed up only in "New Ghoul @ School" as the members of the chess club, and the green-skinned ones that are part of the zombie flash mob in "New Ghoul @ School" and "Fear Squad".

Metal duo[]

The metal duo

The metal duo

The metal duo are two small, male monsters that appeared exclusively in "The Hot Boy", where they just walked through some hallway or another. The duo comprises an aquatic monster and an undead. The undead one's high scare level is probably why their appearance was rather lowkey and never repeated.

Locker group[]

The locker group.

The locker group.

The locker group is a collection of six male monsters that tend to get shocked by Frankie Stein's charge. The group comprises a monkey boy, an unidentifiable type of ghoul, one of the three amoeba boys, a devil boy, a yellow robot and an elephant boy. • Members of the locker group appear in "New Ghoul @ School", "Bad Scare Day" and "Party Planners".

Laughing group[]

The laughing group.

The laughing group comprises three monsters:

  • A pink ape boy
  • A green female monster with a '50s appearance
  • A grey-blue male monster with fangs protruding from his lower jaw

These three are almost limited to one appearance, namely in "Bad Zituation", where they laughed at Frankie for her zit. However, the fanged boy appeared as a guest at Frankie's and Draculaura's birthday party in "Party Planners".

Creepateria group[]

The creepeteria group.

The creepeteria group.

The creepateria group includes three students only seen once, in "Bad Scare Day". They are a wererat, a pig-type monster, and an undead of some kind. When Frankie Stein was magnetized by her bolts' polarity being reversed, they were bombarded with metal kitchenware and only just kept themselves unharmed.
