Earnings roundup: Mattel, Time Warner

Among the earnings stories for Wednesday, Feb. 2, from the Associated Press:

-- Time Warner Inc., the owner of Warner Bros., HBO, CNN and Time magazine, reported a 22 percent increase in its fourth-quarter profit and raised its forecast for this year, citing optimism about its TV business.

-- Mattel Inc., the largest U.S. toy maker, said fourth-quarter net income edged down 1 percent to $325.2 million, or 89 cents per share, while revenue rose 9 percent to $2.12 billion on strong sales of dolls including Barbie, American Girl and the company's new "Monster High" doll line.

-- Candy maker Hershey extended a string of impressive results, saying Wednesday that its fourth-quarter profit rose nearly 7 percent as holiday shopping in the U.S. was brisk and growth accelerated in emerging markets.
